Competitive Rowing
Sligo Rowing Club founded in 2006 is a small competitive Olympic style slide seat rowing club located in Doorly Park on the shores of the Garavogue River not far from the centre of Sligo town. The club caters for both boys and girls from 12 years of age upwards through all the various age categories to senior and veteran Master grade level. The club which rows under the black and red colours of Sligo accommodates competitive rowing by travelling to the numerous rowing regattas and head of river events which are hosted by clubs throughout the country.

Junior boys and girls who wish to trial the sport must be 12 years of age before the 31st December of the year they join and are encouraged to trial the sport before becoming formal members of the club. All members must be able to swim and are encouraged to attend land/gym training during the winter months whilst taking to the water every Saturday & Sunday morning. On the water training will increase in the Summer months as the racing regatta season intensifies cumulating with the National Rowing Championships which take place at the National Rowing Centre on the second weekend in July. Members are also encouraged to compete at indoor rowing events where they will race on indoor rowing machines.
Sligo Rowing Club’s objective is to continue to market, encourage and facilitate the participation of competitive Olympic style rowing amongst the entire community of Sligo. Junior Boys and girls, as well as men and women of the region, will be encouraged and facilitated to achieve their personal goals with respect to rowing. The club will also continue to showcase and market the sport by holding Head of the River and Regatta events annually in Sligo town as well as hosting a come try Day events for the general public.
